The Wait for GPT-5: Patience Required
News: Are you excited for the next generation of large language models? The one rumored to be a giant leap forward, GPT-5? If so, you might need to hold your horses for a bit longer.
There's been a lot of buzz lately about GPT-5, the supposed successor to OpenAI's impressive GPT-3 and GPT-4 models. These models are known for their ability to generate realistic and creative text, and many anticipate GPT-5 to be even more powerful.
But according to Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, there's no set release date for GPT-5 yet. In a recent interview, when asked about the launch, Altman simply said, "I don't know."
This doesn't necessarily mean GPT-5 is scrapped. OpenAI is known for its cautious approach to releasing new models, prioritizing safety and responsible development.
I'm also with you regarding Open IA releasing GPT-5 at the end of the year. Let's see if multimodality comes for real this time. Calling GPT-4 the dumbest model when it’s pretty much the state of the art model right now speaks volumes to what they’re sitting on! I can’t wait for June and for their Dev Day!
When Sam Altman says “we are probably looking at it through a lens that no one else is quite imagining yet" it makes me wonder if they are using an internal version of AI to steer the company. They could easily be using a smarter unrestricted model to help them formulate plans. “Hey chatgpt, how do I turn our billion dollar company into a trillion dollar company?”
The Wait for GPT-5: Patience Required
Here's the good news: Sam Altman did hint that OpenAI will release a new AI model this year. While he didn't confirm if it would be GPT-5, it suggests OpenAI is making progress with its next-generation language models.
So, what does this mean for you? If you're eagerly waiting for GPT-5 to revolutionize the way we interact with AI, you might have to wait a little longer.
However, OpenAI's commitment to progress means we can expect exciting things from them this year, even if it's not GPT-5 specifically. Stay tuned for updates from OpenAI to see what new AI marvel they unveil next.
In the meantime, GPT-3 and GPT-4 are still available and pushing the boundaries of what AI can do. You can explore their capabilities for tasks like writing different kinds of creative content or translating languages.
Even without AGI, the only thing right now preventing a massive takeover of millions of jobs is just computing power on the one hand, and people to actually implement AI in a meaningful way in most companies (i.e. make data available mostly, and give AI objectives, i.e. align it with the company objectives/customer needs). That's where I would go if I were younger. Helping companies implement AI.
Before worrying about jobs, I think everybody should worry about the collapse of the financial system as we know it. Traders have already been using bots for years. Bots can only use available statistical data and provided settings, margins etc. Imagine completely autonomous AI agents trading on markets with all the news around the world available for them to process in real-time.
Also money is a social construct to basically exchange services among people. Once you don't need the service of other humans, does it have any value or what happens to its value? A huge shitstorm is about to hit the whole world and only a relatively small group of people are really aware of it.
